GRAPHIC DESIGN AS CONTEMPLATIVE ART

David Grey is the founder and former chair of the Graphic Design Department at Santa Fe University of Art and Design. He holds an MFA in graphic design from California Institute of the Arts and a BA in psychology from Tufts University. David's primary pedagogical interest is the exploration of mindfulness and contemplation as the ground for one’s creative process. Teaching a practice called "Artful Awareness", David has lead international contemplative design workshops at universities in Milan, Madrid, Sao Paolo, New Delhi, Mexico City and Guadalajara. He is the founder of Sun Mountain School of Contemplative Art and the publisher of Cottage Scholar. When not working on commercial projects, David spends time exploring self-initiated design-based art making. He is currently on a year long sabbatical to focus on a daily practice of meditation, creativity, and critical writing.
